Musical Growth

Camden Community Band (CCB) is comprised of members of:

  • Concert Band
  • Community of Schools (COS) Band and
  • Parade Band

Subsequently, Concert Band rehearsals are open to all financial members of these bands and in fact, all members are encouraged to attend rehearsals as a way of broadening their musical experience.

Musicians without or with other band attachment(s) interested in rehearsing with any of the CCB bands are invited to contact the Musical Director to arrange a suitable date to attend.

The SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER Playlist is published. Please ensure you all the required music for every rehearsal.
Guest Conductor for the next two weeks will be Heather Berman, MD of Wollondilly Community Band. Appearance by WCB are most welcome to foster cross-pollination and music based camaraderie.

PREPARING FOR A BAND CONTEST

Your Repertoire

Following careful consideration of your bands ability, your MD has chosen pieces that showcase your band’s strengths and are appropriate for the contest. Listen to recordings to help you get a feel for the charts.

Practice Regularly

Consistent practice is key. Break down the music into manageable sections and focus on difficult passages. Use a metronome to ensure you’re keeping time.

Rehearse as a Group

Your MD has assured regular rehearsals with the entire band. This helps with synchronization and blending.  Pay attention to dynamics, articulation, and balance.

Mock Performances

Simulate the contest environment by performing in front of friends or family. This helps reduce performance anxiety and gives you a feel for the actual event.

Mental Preparation

Develop a pre-show routine to calm your nerves. This might include meditation, visualization, or deep breathing exercises.

Physical Preparation

Ensure you’re well-rested and hydrated. Avoid heavy meals before the performance, but have light snacks to keep your energy up.

Final Polishes

In the days leading up to the contest, focus on refining your performance. Pay attention to the finer details and make sure everyone is confident with their parts.

Stay Positive

Encourage each other and maintain a positive attitude. Confidence and a good mindset can significantly impact your performance.
